Healthy Habits For Trying To Conceive

Trying to conceive can be quite the task. There are many wives tales and people telling you what they have done or what they have heard.  Deciphering the long list of “do’s” and “don’ts” can be overwhelming.  Here are 5 simple tips to help you conceive to get your pregnancy off to a healthy start. 1.  Folic Acid – prenatal vitamin

Although it may seem a little premature, taking prenatal vitamins that contain folic acid are crucial during conception. Folic acid is very important during the first stages of pregnancy.  Folic acid is important in forming the neural tube, which forms within the first 28 and before more women know they are pregnant.

2.  Know your cycle

Knowing your menstrual cycle can allow you to better predict when you are ovulating and most fertile.  By knowing this information you can maximize the chances of getting pregnant.

To help monitor your cycle, begin recording when you get your period. If you have regular cycle, it may be easier to know when you are ovulating.  Ovulation occurs 12 to 16 days before your period. There are also at-home ovulation kits that can help you know when the best time to conceive is.

3.  Have sex regularly

After learning and predicting your cycle, you can maximize your efforts in getting pregnant. Some suggest having sex every other day during your six day fertile period. Try to have fun and don’t stress too much.  Getting pregnant is a numbers game and even if everything goes right, there is only a 25% chance on conceiving each cycle.

4.  Ideal body weight

While staying healthy is really important, be sure to not overdo it. Being underweight or overweight can harm your fertility. Excessive exercise can also make it harder to conceive. It is important to stay active, just be sure to find a happy medium.

5.  Avoid alcohol

It is best to avoid alcohol during conception and throughout your pregnancy.  Not only do you want to set yourself up success for when you get pregnant, but there are signs that moderate to heavy drinking can lead to conception difficulties.

Trying to conceive can be stressful. Just remember that a mother nature has a large part of this process and patience can go a long way.  These tips are here to help you increase your chances of getting pregnant.  Don’t worry if it doesn’t happen at first. If you have been trying for more than a year, it may be time to talk to a doctor.
