Teen Health

Our Nurse Practitioners and Certified Nurse-Midwives are a great resource in educating young women on the changes their bodies will undergo during puberty.  South Denver Obstetrics & Gynecology also offers the Gardasil® HPV Vaccination for teens to protect against the HPV virus which can result in cervical cancer and genital warts.  Initiating the Gardasil vaccine series is a great way to begin the discussion of women’s health with young girls.  Birth control consults for family planning needs or menstrual cycle regulation can also be discussed during a consult for adolescent health.  The foundation of these discussions with teens is making informed choices and having respect for their bodies — our staff are very comfortable discussing these issues with teens.

Uro-Gynecology Procedures

Female problems of the urinary and gynecological systems are often times very complex and intimately related. Therefore, these problems are not adequately addressed independently by a urologist or a gynecologist so patients are “bounced” between two specialists. Our Colorado urogynecology specialists offer expertise in both female urology and gynecology to address all aspects of your problem.

There are many ways to address urogynecological problems – both surgical and non surgical. These issues, such as urinary incontinence, have a tremendous impact on your quality of life and are commonly accepted as a “natural part of growing older”. That is simply not true. Our goal is to do a thorough evaluation of your problem and provide the information for you to have a better understanding of your problem. By working together we will tailor a plan specific to your needs. Your insight allows you to take control of the situation and make informed decisions.

  • Pessaries

  • Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation

  • Incontinence Sling (TVT / “Bladder Tack”)

  • Urethral Bulking

  • Vaginal Prolapse Repair (abdominal / vaginal approaches)

  • Cystocele Repair (Bladder Repair)

  • Rectocele Repair (Rectal Repair)

  • Enterocele Repair (Bowel hernia at the top of the vagina)

  • Vaginal Vault Suspension

  • Uterine Suspension

  • Endometrial Ablation

  • Cystoscopy

  • Neuromodulation for overactive bladder and pelvic pain

  • Fistula Repair

  • Perineoplasty (Perineorrhaphy)

  • Labiaplasty

Not all doctors have the same training and experience to address urogynecological problems. When surgery is an option, your best chance for long-term success is with your initial procedure. It is important to seek expert evaluation from the start.

Bio-Identical Hormone Pellet Therapy- The Right Choice

Bio identical hormones are non-synthetic, plant-based hormones that are identical biologically to human hormone. The best analogy to differentiate bio identical from synthetic hormones is to look at the hormones and the receptors they activate (hundreds of thousands in our bodies) as a lock and key. The hormone is the key and the receptors they work upon are the locks. Bio-identical hormones fit perfectly in the lock, and unlock all of the beneficial effects of hormones, and when dosed properly, as with the BioTE® Pellet Therapy method, have minimal to no side effects. Synthetic hormones, however, fit in the lock, but do not turn the lock and release many untoward side effects.

By “bio-identical” we mean that the biochemical structure of the hormone is perfectly matched to the hormone produced in a woman’s body by her endocrine system. Bio-Identicals used inhormone replacement therapy are neither a horse’s hormone nor an artificially formulated (synthetic) that is intentionally manufactured to be slightly different from human hormone in order to patent it.

Bio-Identical hormones are plant-based, natural substances that our bodies can metabolize in the way it was designed to do, minimizing side effects. These compounded bio-identicals can be matched to each person’s unique needs, something that’s impossible with mass-manufactured products.

Countless people have now made the switch to natural bio-identical hormone therapy. These human-identicals have long been preferred for hormone therapy in Japan, France and other European countries. They’ve been the subjects of many research studies on hormone therapy in which significant health benefits have been reported for both women and men. Data also continues to indicate that receiving hormone replacement therapy at the start of menopause can be very important to a woman’s ongoing health.

5* South Denver saved my life, literally! I went into the practice for my second visit with Redd (she is the best!!!) and I'd been having some AWFUL side pain (it felt like appendicitis except there was no fever, vomiting, etc and I'd been having the worst cramps, so I knew it wasn't that). They were able to get me in for an ultrasound and low and behold I had an ectopic pregnancy. They scheduled me for emergency surgery that day. Dr. Bergstrom (also amazing!!!) performed my surgery. He was a wonderful surgeon, and I really feel at ease with everyone in the practice. They know my name and are just wonderful to be a patient with! I will not ever use another practice as long as I can help it!

vitals review for south denver obstetrics and gynecology

    The Best Staff,
    Diagnosed 2 substantial problems

I had my first baby with a different practice. I loved all the Drs I met, but when it was time to give birth, I had an on call Dr that I was very uncomfortable with.  He was rude and actually told me I was not going into labor (when I actually was) I had never met him before and he made my birthing experience horrible. A friend recommended this practice. I didn't want a male Dr because I was uncomfortable with it and so I decided to go through the midwife route. I absolutely love all the Midwives here in this practice! I have met all of them but I wanted to give props especially to Cassie Applegate! She is amazing, caring and actually takes the time to hear my concerns. She helped deliver My second child. She was there for the whole thing, which was totally different from my first birth where the Dr was there only for the last 5 minutes of the hour and a half pushing i did. Even though I had some complications after the birth, Cassie made me feel comfortable and safe. She's approachable and really cares about her patients.

Dr. Payne is awesome! After three doctors in Denver I finally found her and she was the only one who actually listened. Within two months of my first appointment I had outpatient surgery to remove a fibroid, and was started on thyroid medicine and hormone therapy. Feeling like a new woman!
